Media literacy and the publics voice play very import rolls in social media. It takes the publics ability to interpret media and give a relatively similar response to what they want leaders to do in response to make a difference. Social Media can be used as a tool to help improve the world. It gives the public a true engagement with government officials and various other organizations. Government Leaders can use social media to advertise campaigns and get the publics feedback, and see how they will react to things. This government article accurately describes social media’s beneficial potential.

Another potential of Social media is its marketing-advertising capabilities. Its clear that social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube receive billions of views everyday, so why not make an attempt to get your ad seen. Companies have started to work with social media and use it as a global advertising platform for mass communication about their products/services.

Does Social Media Pay?

Companies recognizes that social media has globalizing factors and they can get their product seen worldwide. This article, shows social media and its global brand building potential. An example of a  popular global company that uses social media to advertise is, Coca-Cola.

 Unknown-2Unknown-1

Here is them using the word popular social media sites, Facebook and Twitter.

Many other companies follow their example and use this advertising technique to gain popularity. Its hard to use some sort of media and not run into advertisement. I find it interesting to see how social media can be used to manipulate the public opinion. If social media continues to grow as it is then marketing will also continue to grow on a global scale as well.

Apple’s Global Advertising Strategy

March 19, 2015

Apple Inc. is as global as it gets! They seek to connect us all on a global scale and define their products as platforms for potential.

apple marketing philosophy

Apples 3-point marketing philosophy

“Apple has used these principles to become the world’s most valuable company (measured by market capitalization) and one of world’s most valuable brands.” Their marketing technique embodies everything that globalization is about, as this article explains. They have united people around a brand. Apples brand is non-geographically bound community, easily allowing them to expand and gain more support. Apple has been able to convince people of their superiority their brand, to become a more popular product, a good example of that can be seen in this article. They want people to grow as they grow and use their latest technology. They have done so through their advertising.

Apple uses very creative advertising techniques to get that message across, and to demonstrate how versatile their products are. They want the world to feel apart of what they are creating. One of their latest advertising campaigns is called “Shot on 6″ where photos taken from the iPhone 6 around the world have become featured here: ‘Shot on 6’ Gallery          screen_shot_2015-03-02_at_11.51.09_am

These pictures are from all over the world and this technique shows people how good their product can be, and makes them want to go out and test it for themselves. These pictures taken by the iPhone 6 literally hit home with a large portion of the world and connects us all through a single brand (Apple).

What makes Apples ads so affective?

They are mostly universal and try to connect to as wide of an audience as possible. This video is one of the best examples I found:

Apple Inc. was not always a global brand, they had to climb their way to the top. They had to build trust in their products and gain support slowly. This article, shows the advertising campaign of their iPhone product over a six year span.

It is very interesting to see how far Apple has come and it will be even more interesting to see what they will do next to stay on top.

It really is interesting to think about how far Apple products have come in the last decade. I like the video posted about the universal Apple ads that exemplify how the same uses can occur in very different parts of the world. For example, two young boys are using their phones for the same reasons, to call people, but they are speaking in different languages. I think this emphasizes exactly what globalization is: linking people globally, and in this case, with a specific product. The only part of this blog that needs editing is making the links attached to a word, and not clearly seen as a link! This makes it more appealing for readers to read and it shows up highlighted. Overall, the global advertising through Apple contributes to globalization by connecting different societies through various products of the same brand.

I truly believe the example of apple embodies the idea of globalization through a certain brand. I found it very interesting when you used the campaign of “Shots on 6.” The pictures taken across the globe through an iPhone 6 were a vivid example of how Apple has united different cultures through a brand. Also, the commercial where people from different parts of the world were using the iPhone 6 to connect to other parts of the world by knowing the time, reading books in different languages, and even better which was face time people who were across the globe proved the point of globalization. Indeed, the only part I suggest to work on is the links as Kamber mentioned. You should probably try to use key words instead of the URL to attract the reader into the hyperlink. As a first blog I thought you did a really good job with a great example of globalization and how a brand such as Apple unites different people from across the world.

I really enjoy the content on this blog and how you used the example of Nike. I think that similar to your first blog of Apple as a global brand, Nike is another brand that has reached people from different parts of the globe. Even from the beginning of your blog I really liked the creativity of the title, however, just watch out with “Than” instead of “Then.” The image you used demonstrating the reader the different places around the globe Nike has an impact on was really good. Such image helped the reader visualize more the impact of Nike. As I continued to read the blog I really enjoyed how you mentioned the approach Nike uses to reach it’s audience. The use of professional athletes to make the customers around the globe the want to buy the product is very useful. One thing I would try to change is when you use the name of the athletes such as Michael Jordan, Neymar, Tiger Woods, and so on try to hyperlink. When you hyperlink their names to another source it will help your blog look more professional. Overall, I think you did a good job in the content of the blog and used good examples. Do not forget to use sources.

I think it is really interesting you chose a clothing brand to represent globalization. At least for me, brands are not the first things that come to mind when I think of globalization. Brands like Nike though, are known to virtually everyone around the world, and therefore have the ability to reach and influence huge audiences, especially through advertising. It’s especially cool that such a big brand like Nike uses this influence to create inspirational advertisements, like the ones in the article you linked.

  5. I really thought this article was interesting. As I was reading it, one of the things that struck me was their iconic slogan “just Do it” Obviously, I have known that those three words have been the Nike slogan for a long time but for some reason it just struck me now the massive impact on people those words can have. Whenever I see those words in a commercial it always makes me want to get off the couch, and run a mile, then I realize that I really cant do that. Haha. But my feelings aside, that slogan is genius, because it gets people wanting to be more active and therefore they buy Nike merchandise. Thank you for making me see that! Also, I liked how you show how global of a country Nike is by having the list of countries. That is a very powerful image. Just a thought: Maybe you could add more links. Great post. -Tucker Rockett

I really liked this post because it incorporated not only social media, but how social media and advertising collide. I thought it was great how you included multiple articles about your findings regarding how government uses advertising and how advertisers use social media as a tool to sell products. I particularly thought the link about the potential that social media has with impacting global advertisements was interesting, because it emphasizes how social media is taking over our society in more ways than one. My only suggestion would be to add a video or two, and add hyperlinked sources at the end of your post.

Tucker I think you did a really good job talking about social media advertisement and its correlation with globalization. The points you made how important corporations such as Coca-Cola have started to use social media to advertise their products world wide. The use of Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and other social media have been key for brands to get their name out in the world, but also for individuals who are starting a particular career. On top of my head I can think the example of Justin Bieber and how he started as a Youtube sensation to become the Justin we see on television. I think your article about how much time we spend on social media was strategic. In order for the audience to understand why social media connects with globalization is important to understand we are always updated through social media. Overall, I think you did a great job, however, I have some suggestions for your post. I suggest the title of your post should be a bit bigger so it can differentiate from the rest of the article. Also do not forget to check your grammar because in one sentence I think you meant to say “hours” instead of “ours.”

I really enjoyed how you covered all of the positive aspects of an increased use of social media. While most people criticize our society’s excessive use, it is important to remember its benefits. Because of social media, it is easier for the government, companies, or organizations to get their message out to people across the globe. Although people have to be careful of social media being used to manipulate their opinion, it is overall a great way to connect people to big companies and organizations.
